Rise of Kingdoms is heading into what Lilith Games is calling its biggest transition in seasons. The veteran mobile 4X is teasing new cultures plus a simpler Commander Swap system, and those two changes would reshape the pillars most players have built their entire accounts around.
In the meantime, the update drumbeat keeps going. Version 1.1.10, "Starry Rendezvous," landed on July 30, 2026, and the summer calendar has kept the map busy with festival themed content.
What you can actually play right now
The current event schedule leans hard into seasonal themes, handing you fresh objectives without touching the core loop.
The "Night of Sevens" series celebrated the Chinese Qixi festival with activities like Esmeralda's Prayer, Esmeralda's Collection and Riches Unveiled, where you collect Palette Knives to restore murals and dig up treasures.
Earlier in the summer, the Summer Solstice series ran its own rotation:
- Midsummer Magic, collecting fireflies to light lanterns and unlock rewards
- Barbarian Incursions
- Fisherman's Fortune
- Melon Market
These are the short lived loops that keep a mature 4X feeling alive between the big structural updates, and they sit neatly around the version 1.1.10 release.
The change worth watching
The bigger story is what Lilith is signaling for the road ahead. Two teased changes stand out.
First, new cultures. Fresh civilizations reset the math in a game where your culture pick shapes early bonuses, unit specializations and long term identity, so any addition grabs the competitive playerbase immediately.
Second, a simpler Commander Swap system. Commanders are the beating heart of Rise of Kingdoms progression, and moving investment between them has always been expensive enough to make you think twice. A streamlined swap would drop the cost of experimenting with builds and let you chase a new meta without feeling stuck with the last one.
Put together, they suggest Lilith is loosening some of the game's most rigid systems, which is notable for a title that has spent years training players to plan months out.
The takeaway
Rise of Kingdoms is running two tracks at once. The festival series and "Starry Rendezvous" keep the daily loop fresh, while the teased cultures and reworked Commander Swap point at something with real weight behind it. If you are a veteran who has spent years optimizing around fixed constraints, the easier swap is the one to watch. It would be the most player friendly change in a long while, and a sign Lilith is willing to modernize its foundations instead of just stacking more on top of them.
