Where Winds Meet, the free to play open world wuxia ARPG from Everstone Studio and NetEase Games, has barely stopped to breathe since it went worldwide in November 2025, and 2026 has kept the content coming. Between a Version 1.2 update at the start of the year, a second major expansion revealed at its half anniversary and a mobile launch, the martial arts sandbox has given players a long list of reasons to stay in the jianghu.

The thread running through all of it is ambition. Instead of coasting on its launch numbers, Everstone has been widening both the world and the number of ways you can live in it.

From Kaifeng's Finale to the Imperial Palace

The year opened with Version 1.2, out globally on January 9, 2026. That update closed the Final Volume of Kaifeng, launched a competitive Guild Battle Preseason, added a new region and a puzzle cave, and kicked off the first Jianghu Martial Games with a run of limited time events.

Then at the half anniversary celebration in May, Everstone revealed its second major expansion, "Imperial Palace," slated for late May. It came with a substantial content roadmap attached, which is about as clear a statement as a studio can make that the world is going to keep growing well past its opening chapters.

Building a Life, Not Just a Legend

Some of the most interesting things on that roadmap have nothing to do with combat. Homesteads lets you build a personal sanctuary, farm, and live the quiet life of a hidden martial arts master in Qinghe, essentially a life sim layer sitting under the swordplay. A Companion system is coming too, pushing the game's social and relationship threads deeper.

And if you would rather let your fists do the talking, a new weapon type called Gauntlets widens the combat toolkit. Here is what shapes Where Winds Meet's 2026:

  • Version 1.2, the Final Volume of Kaifeng, Guild Battle Preseason and the first Jianghu Martial Games.
  • "Imperial Palace", the game's second major expansion, revealed at the half anniversary.
  • Homesteads and Companions, a life sim layer and deeper social systems.
  • Gauntlets, a new weapon type broadening the martial arts combat.

Reaching More Players

Everstone has been widening the door as well. Following the worldwide PC launch, a mobile version of Where Winds Meet was set to arrive, putting the wuxia open world on phones and reaching players who would rather travel the jianghu on the go.

For a free to play live service game, that platform push works hand in hand with the content roadmap: more places to play means a bigger and steadier player base, which is what keeps the expansions, systems and seasonal events coming.

The Takeaway

Where Winds Meet is doing all three things a healthy live service game should be doing at once, expanding its world, deepening its systems and broadening its platforms. "Imperial Palace" gives combat players new ground to cover, while Homesteads and Companions go after everyone who wants to settle into the fantasy of a martial arts life instead of just fighting through one. Add a fresh weapon type and a mobile launch, and the jianghu has rarely looked this inviting.
